Estate-tier bathrooms in Sacramento County are a different design problem than the rest of the market. Rancho Murieta, Gold River, Sierra Oaks, the Granite Bay corridor, and the older Land Park and East Sac estates need primary suites that read as residential luxury rather than catalog luxury — bespoke millwork, slab stone, fixtures with engineering tolerance you can feel in the handle action, and integration work (smart lighting, shade automation, music, steam) that disappears when you don't want to see it.

We build about 12 Estate-tier primary suites a year. They are the projects we plan most carefully, source most thoughtfully, and document most thoroughly. Pre-construction runs five to eight weeks before any demolition starts because the long-lead items (custom millwork, slab fabrication, freestanding tubs from European brands) need to be ordered, fabricated, and delivered on a schedule that lines up with the build. What follows is how we approach Estate-tier work in Sacramento County, what it costs, and why the timeline looks the way it does.

ESTATE-TIER STANDARDS

What Separates an Estate Build From the Rest

Every Estate-tier remodel includes the same foundation of materials, integration, and craft. The variables are the design vision and the scope of structural work.

  • Slab Stone Walls and Floors

Quartzite, marble, and porcelain slab from Sacramento-area fabricators. Templated, fabricated, and installed by specialty trades coordinated by our team.

  • Custom Millwork Vanities

Bespoke vanities from two Sacramento-area millwork shops. Walnut, white oak, painted maple, rift-cut white oak, with integrated LED and slab tops.

  • Steam, Body Sprays, Heated Bench

Mr. Steam, Steamist, or ThermaSol steam units. Multi-zone shower valves with rainfall, handheld, and body sprays. Heated benches inside the shower envelope.

  • Smart-Controls Integration

Lutron, Crestron, or Savant for lighting, shade, music, and steam. Programmable scenes for morning routine, evening soak, and guest mode.

  • Designer-Led Material Curation

Work with your existing designer or use our in-house team. Either way, every material is sourced, priced, and approved before fabrication starts.

  • Estate-Grade Fixtures

Brizo, Waterworks, Kallista, THG, House of Rohl. Engineering tolerance you can feel in the handle action. Lifetime manufacturer warranties on most lines.

Slab stone: where the room actually becomes a room

Slab stone is the single most-defining material in an Estate-tier bathroom. A 60"×60" quartzite shower wall reads completely differently from the same wall in tile, even when the tile is large-format porcelain. There's no grout. The veining runs continuously across the surface. The light reflects differently. Standing in a stone-walled shower feels like standing in a piece of architecture; standing in a tiled shower feels like standing in a bathroom.

We work with two Sacramento-area slab fabricators on every Estate-tier project. The process: visit the slab yard with the designer and homeowner to select the actual slabs (not just samples — actual slabs, marked with paint-pen reservations), template the walls and counters after framing is complete, fabricate at the shop with CNC and waterjet, deliver, and install with specialty crews who do nothing but slab work. Quartzite is our most-installed material because it handles Sacramento's hard water without etching. Marble is gorgeous and requires twice-yearly sealing — we install it for homeowners who are committed to that maintenance cycle. Porcelain slab is the marble-look option without the maintenance, and the technology has improved dramatically in the last five years.

Slab walls run $80–$180 per square foot fabricated and installed in 2026. A typical Estate-tier shower with three slab walls (about 90 square feet of stone) lands $9,000–$16,000 in stone alone, plus another $3,500–$6,500 for the templating, fabrication, and install labor. The slab vanity top adds another $2,800–$6,800 depending on size and stone choice. These are real numbers — but they are also the numbers that produce the visual signature of a luxury bathroom.

Custom millwork and the engineering of cabinetry

Stock cabinets read as stock cabinets in an Estate-tier room. The door-frame proportions, drawer-glide quality, toe-kick depth, end-panel returns, and a dozen other details quietly broadcast “builder-grade” even when the finish is upgraded. Bespoke millwork from a real cabinet shop reads completely differently — frameless or full-overlay construction with 1/4"-reveal door gaps, dovetailed drawer boxes, soft-close glides rated for 100 pounds, integrated LED, and end-panel returns that match the door material.

We work with two Sacramento-area millwork shops on Estate-tier vanities. Lead time is five to seven weeks from approved drawings. A custom 72" double vanity in walnut, white oak, painted maple, or rift-cut white oak runs $9,500–$18,000 from our preferred shops, plus the slab top. Lead time on the cabinet drives the entire build schedule — we order millwork the day contracts sign.

Smart-controls integration done right

Smart-home integration is the single most-overdone, least-thoughtfully-executed piece of luxury bathroom work in Sacramento County. We have walked into Rancho Murieta and Gold River primary suites with twelve switches on the wall, three different control protocols fighting each other, and a homeowner who hasn't adjusted a setting in three years because nothing works the way they expected. Done right, the integration disappears. Done wrong, it's the most expensive frustration in the house.

We default to Lutron RA3 or Crestron Home for lighting and shade. Both platforms support real scenes (morning, evening, guest mode), both integrate cleanly with steam units and music systems, and both are serviceable by Sacramento-area integrators ten years from now. Savant is the alternative for homeowners already on the Savant platform elsewhere in the home. Smart-controls add $2,500–$8,500 to an Estate-tier bathroom depending on platform and scope.

HOW IT WORKS

Five Phases from Discovery to Commissioning

Estate-tier remodels are higher-stakes than the rest. Our process is the same — slower in pre-construction, more carefully documented throughout.

  1. 01

    Design Discovery

On-site walkthrough with our team and your designer (or our in-house designer). We document the existing conditions, discuss the architectural vocabulary of the home, and align on scope.

  2. 02

    Design Development & Selections

Five to eight weeks of design refinement, material sampling, slab visits, fixture spec, and millwork drawings. Every selection is priced and locked before contracts sign.

  3. 03

    Permits, HOA Review, Long-Lead Orders

We pull permits, submit HOA architectural review packets, and place long-lead orders (custom millwork, slab stone, freestanding tub, steam unit, fixtures) the day contracts execute.

  4. 04

    Build

Eight to twelve weeks of demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, low-voltage, waterproofing, slab and tile, custom millwork, glass, and finish work. One project lead, daily updates.

  5. 05

    Walkthrough & Commissioning

Final walkthrough with you and your designer, smart-controls commissioning, written care guide for stone and millwork, and our 5-year workmanship warranty.

Why pre-construction takes five to eight weeks

The most-asked question on Estate-tier projects is why we don't start demolition immediately. The answer is that the long-lead items drive the schedule, and starting demolition before those items are ordered creates an unfinished room sitting open for weeks while we wait for millwork and slab. We don't do that. Pre-construction includes design development (refining the drawings to fabrication-ready), material selections (every tile, fixture, and finish locked before contracts sign), slab visits (the homeowner physically selects the slabs), millwork drawings and approvals, permit pull, HOA architectural review where applicable, and long-lead orders.

The benefit of doing it this way: when demolition starts, the millwork shop is already cutting your cabinets, the slab shop is templating after framing, the fixtures are sitting in our warehouse, and the schedule is real. Build phase runs 8 to 12 weeks with zero waiting on materials. The total project takes 12 to 18 weeks from contract to walkthrough — but it's 12 to 18 weeks of forward motion, not 6 weeks of build sandwiched between waiting on parts.

Working with your interior designer

Sacramento has a strong independent design community for luxury residential work. We collaborate cleanly with outside designers — most of our Estate-tier projects involve a designer the homeowner has already engaged for the broader home. Our role in that arrangement is to handle the build execution, source the trades, manage the schedule, and translate the designer's vision into buildable detail. The designer drives the aesthetic; we drive the construction reality.

We also offer in-house design and material curation for homeowners who want a single point of accountability. The in-house route is faster, tighter integration with the build team, and works well for $85k–$130k Estate-tier projects. The outside-designer route is more bespoke and is usually the right call for $150k+ primary suites where the design vocabulary needs to coordinate with adjacent rooms in the home.

WHAT HOMEOWNERS SAY

Recent Estate-Tier Sacramento County Reviews

  • Our Rancho Murieta primary needed to read as residential luxury, not hotel-luxury. Sacramento Bath worked with our designer for ten weeks of selections before demolition started, and the result feels lived-in and bespoke instead of catalog-purchased.

Rancho Murieta · Estate primary suite

  • We did the full Sierra Oaks primary — slab Calacatta walls, steam, custom walnut vanity, Crestron integration. Twelve-week build, zero schedule slip, daily updates from the project lead. The room is the calmest place in the house.

    Anand R.

Sierra Oaks · Estate primary suite

  • Gold River house, 1990s primary, needed a complete rebuild. Sacramento Bath managed the architect, the designer, the millwork shop, and the slab fabricator. We never had to coordinate a thing. Ten years from now this room will still look right.

QUESTIONS WE GET WEEKLY

Luxury Bathroom Remodel FAQs

  • What does an Estate-tier luxury bathroom cost in Sacramento County?

Luxury bathroom remodels in Rancho Murieta, Gold River, Sierra Oaks, and the Granite Bay corridor land $85,000–$185,000 in 2026. Larger primary suites with structural reconfiguration, custom millwork, slab stone walls, steam, and designer-led finishes cross $200,000 regularly. The cost is driven by three things: bespoke millwork (5–7 weeks of fabrication), slab stone fabrication and installation, and the integration work for smart-home controls and lighting.

  • How long does a luxury bathroom remodel take from contract to walkthrough?

Plan on 12 to 18 weeks total. Pre-construction (design development, selections, long-lead orders, permits, HOA architectural review) runs 5 to 8 weeks before any demolition. The build itself is 8 to 12 weeks. Custom millwork drives the schedule — it has to be fabricated, finished, delivered, and installed before tile and slab can lock final dimensions. We never rush this phase; cutting corners on Estate-tier projects shows in five years.

  • Do you work with my interior designer or use in-house design?

Both, and most Estate-tier projects use an outside designer. Sacramento has a strong independent design community that handles luxury bathroom work — we collaborate cleanly with the designer of your choice. We also offer in-house design and material curation if you prefer a single point of accountability. The outside-designer route is more bespoke and the right call for $150k+ primary suites; in-house works well for $85k–$130k builds.

  • What separates an Estate-tier build from a Signature build technically?

Three differences. First, materials — slab stone instead of large-format porcelain, custom millwork instead of semi-custom vanities, fixtures from Brizo, Waterworks, Kallista, or THG instead of Kohler and Delta. Second, integration — smart-controls (Lutron, Crestron, Savant) for lighting, shade, music, and steam; integrated LED throughout; programmable scenes. Third, structural — Estate projects routinely include moving walls, raising ceilings, or expanding the room into a closet or hallway.

  • Do you handle the HOA architectural review for Rancho Murieta and Gold River?

Yes. We have submitted dozens of architectural-review packets in Murieta Hills, Murieta South, Gold River, Empire Ranch, and Briggs Ranch. The HOAs care about exterior changes — vent stacks, exhaust caps, window swaps, anything visible from the street. Pure interior reconfiguration moves through with no HOA involvement. Plan on 10 to 21 days of review on top of the city or county permit when exterior elements are involved.

  • Can you build a steam shower with multiple body sprays and a heated bench?

Yes — and we build them often. A residential steam unit (Mr. Steam, Steamist, ThermaSol) adds about $4,800–$9,500 installed. Three-zone body-spray valves (rainfall + handheld + body sprays) add another $3,200–$6,800. A heated bench inside the shower adds about $1,200. Smart-controls integration to put the whole system on a single touchscreen runs $2,500–$5,500 depending on the platform. The full Estate-tier shower with steam, body sprays, heated bench, and smart-controls lands around $24,000–$38,000 in fixtures and integration alone.

  • What about slab stone — do you fabricate in-house?

No, and we wouldn't. Slab fabrication is a specialty trade with $150k machinery (CNC routers, waterjets, polishing lines) and we partner with two Sacramento-area fabricators on every Estate-tier project. We handle the templating, the design coordination, and the install. Slab walls in a luxury shower run $80–$180 per square foot fabricated and installed depending on the stone. Quartzite, marble, and porcelain slab are the three materials we work with most.

  • Will my Sierra Oaks or Rancho Murieta project disrupt the rest of the house?

We minimize disruption with full dust containment (negative-air machines, zip walls, tarped paths) and we coordinate the schedule around your life. Most Estate-tier homeowners use a secondary bathroom during the build. We work normal hours (7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday) and we keep the site clean daily. Critical-path noisy work (slab cutting, demolition) is scheduled and communicated in advance.
