The City of Sacramento has the most architecturally varied housing stock in the county, which means a walk-in shower install here looks completely different in a 1928 Land Park Tudor than it does in a 1962 Pocket-Greenhaven ranch or a 2008 East Sac infill build. The materials we specify, the way we waterproof, and the way we route the new drain depend entirely on which Sacramento neighborhood you live in and when your home was built.

Walk-in showers are now the single most-requested project on our Sacramento intake calls. The original cast-iron tub in your 1940s Fab 40s home, the fiberglass alcove from a 1985 Greenhaven tract, the framed-glass enclosure that came with your 2003 North Natomas spec — none of them age well. Sacramento neighborhoods, era by era

East Sacramento (Fab 40s, McKinley Park, River Park) — 1920s to 1940s. Raised foundations, original cast-iron drains, plaster walls. Beautiful homes that reward careful work. Walk-in shower projects here usually involve replacing the original lead-bend drain (Sacramento allowed lead until 1986), re-piping the affected branch in copper or PEX, and matching the period feel with subway tile or hex-mosaic floors. Land Park, Curtis Park, Sierra Oaks — 1930s to 1950s.Smaller bathrooms, often original tile we sometimes salvage. Same raised-foundation advantage. The most common project here is a 60x32 walk-in shower replacing the original tub, with brushed-nickel or polished-chrome trim that matches the home's era and 4x4 wall tile in a period-appropriate color.

Pocket-Greenhaven, South Land Park — 1960s to 1980s. Slab-on-grade, fiberglass alcove tubs, framed-glass enclosures. The original waterproofing failed years ago in most of these homes, even if the surface still looks fine. We tear out, install Schluter Kerdi over a fresh mortar bed, and rebuild with large-format porcelain. Curbless requires cutting the slab — about $2,200 extra and worth it for the spa look.

Natomas, Greenhaven (newer phases), North City — 1995 to 2015. Builder-grade everything. Original valve cartridges from this era are now at end-of-life. Most of our work here is a full tear-out replacing the alcove tub-shower combo with a 60-inch frameless walk-in shower, new valve, new pan, new tile.

Downtown, Midtown, Oak Park — mixed era. Everything from 1900s Victorians to 2010s modern infill. Each project gets its own assessment. Older Victorians sometimes have venting that predates universal code; we add an air admittance valve or extend the vent stack as needed.
